The Beginning

Hi, and welcome to my blog!
As part of my degree in Television Production, I am going to begin researching into online streaming on Twitch; how the platform has grown to huge success over the last five years since it began in 2011 - after just its' second year of running it had 50% more monthly viewers than Hulu even though Twitch's viewer-base is considered a niche (Ewalt, 2016), and how hundreds of people have begun a career by playing video games to thousands of viewers at a time.
I plan on running my own stream to see how the service works, how easy or difficult it is to stream, and I will document my journey on this blog. Furthermore, I will investigate what features make streams successful and understand how these individuals manage to maintain viewers for hours on end - something many high-budget television shows struggle to do.
I would like to note that I already have a Twitch account set up, and at the time of writing this I have a total of 70 views and 7 followers, so I will be taking this into account and will not be basing these current views on my research. Also, I will be trying to avoid Facebook and other social media interaction as much as possible to ensure that any viewers I get on my stream are organic views from Twitch and from my dedicated YouTube that links to my Twitch stream.
Another point to make I suppose, is that I am not an established online personality. I have had training in online content and video content through my degree of course, but I am more or less unknown online so will have no benefit from, for example, being a professional e-sports player, etc.
